Special Issue

"Green Technologies and Sustainable Ecosystems"

The strategic research and innovation program for the development of Plovdiv University is cross-sectoral in the field of green economy, environmental solutions, and ecosystem services. The program aims to establish an approach for the assessment and sustainability of ecosystems, on the one hand involving the use of natural resources, and on the other tracking the interaction of human communities with nature when inhabiting a given ecosystem, through the application of new technological and social models. The main topics in the scientific programs directly address green innovations: principles of the green economy, energy efficiency and energy-efficient technologies, technologies for purification, collection, and energy production from waste, sustainable development of the energy ecosystem, and more. The focus is on technological solutions that can be applied to achieve the main goals of European policies – low carbon footprint, high share of renewable energy, small amounts of generated waste, and their conversion into biofuels.

This special issue aims to bring together advanced research and applied innovations based on modern biotechnological studies, the resilience of ecological systems in the changing climate of the planet, their impact on human health, and the sustainable management of resources. It seeks to share the latest results from scientific research by scientists, medical professionals, environmental engineers, IT specialists, and bioeconomics experts, who are at the intersection of biotechnology, analytical control methods, medicine, and smart technologies in education and ecosystem management.

This special issue aims to inspire innovation and debate regarding the revolutionary role of modern biotechnologies, digitalization, and smart technologies in education for ensuring sustainable ecosystem systems. By addressing key technological and practical challenges, it will contribute to innovative solutions to the challenges of modern humanity.
